Are You Aging Too Quickly?

Written by Dr Sandra Miranda, ND

Stress and fast food are unfortunately a big part of a lot of people’s lives. Most people lead such busy lives that they often have very little time for a balanced nutrition.  This accelerates our aging process.

The one thing that you can do today to improve your health and longevity is to start eating more greens.  It is truly my favorite “anti-aging tip” for my patients.

Greens have a whole list of valuable phytonutrients that keep us healthy such as: fibre, folic acid, chlorophyll, calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, and antioxidants like zinc, vitamin A, C and K.   Having a large green salad or a green smoothie every day can reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular problems.  These phytonutrients will fight off free radicals (toxins) that make us age.

Here is an example of a tasty green smoothie that I have every day:

In a blender mix the following ingredients:

  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 2-3 celery stalks
  • 1 cup of spinach
  • ½ green apple
  • ½ lemon or lime juice
  • 20 oz of water
  • This makes 2 servings!

The bottom line is that it is never too late to begin improving your diet and therefore your health. The effect of a bad diet is cumulative but also highly responsive to change. Not only can you halt but you can also reverse age-related damage to the brain, heart and other organs with just small changes.

Enjoy your green smoothie!
