Raising Your Health Standards In The New Year

The New Year is upon us.  How many New Year’s resolutions did you have this time? How many times have you told yourself what you “should” do?

  • I should lose weight.
  • I should stop eating sugar
  • I should drink more water

But if you still haven’t done so it is because you have to “raise your health standards”.  You need to make an inner shift to take control of your life. You need to decide that all those “should” are going to change to “must”.  If you want real change you need to do your part.

Ask yourself honesty, if there is something about your health that you would like to see change, what would it be?

And write it down!

The next step is to figure out what are you going to do to start feeling better or to achieve those goals.  If you have an action plan, then great, write it down too!  If you don’t and need help figuring out a plan, then see a Naturopathic Doctor.  We are trained not only to figure out what the root cause of your health problem may be but also to be a coach that can guide step by step in your journey to health.

I remember when Maria came to see me at the clinic, she had a big stack of copies of blood work, ultrasounds, and MRIs and still no definite diagnosis as to why she was so inflamed all over her body.  She was tired, gaining weight, and all her joints stiff and swollen.  In her case, we decided to check for food intolerances (link to Testing page in our website) .  Once we got that information, we guided her through a detoxification program with some colonics.  Within 1 month she was feeling 60% better and she was losing weight – she was thrilled!

Here are some tips to follow that can help you to stay on track:

  • Plan, plan and plan! It is my favorite thing to do. Think the night before what your day will be like the next day and plan what you are going to eat and what you are going to pack with you before you leave your house.
  • Write down what you are eating and drinking every day. You will be amazed to realize how much unconscious eating happens in your daily life. Writing it down keep you accountable.
  • Get an accountability partner.  Find a friend who wants to do your program or wants to exercise with you. Find a co-worker who will remind you to drink your water.
  • Be patient! Don’t get frustrated that you are not feeling better or that you haven’t lost any weight just because you are eating healthy for 2 days. It took a long time to get you where you are at now, it will take some time to reverse it too. As a rule of thumb, it can take approximately 1 month to heal a health problem that you have had for a year.
