The Ugly Truth of Plastics

plastics

Written by Dr. Sandra Miranda, ND

When plastic was first invented in 1907 by Leo Hendrik Baekeland it was celebrated with awards and accolades as an excellent new product that was going to revolutionize the industrial marketplace, and it did. Plastic is now everywhere, from your cars, your computers, your phones, your kids toys, your food packaging, your food containers … everywhere.

But, did you know…  some plastics have additives to make it more flexible or alter the molecular structure to fit a purpose? And did you know that these additives can affect human hormones and insulin resistance? And lastly did you know that these toxic additives can leach out of the plastic into the food that is stored in it?

That’s right folks, the plastic containers you have your food stored in on your shelf or in your fridge right now could be leeching toxic additives into the food you are about to eat and serve to your family.

I am not trying to be a scare monger here, countries across the world are banning the use of some of these additives as they have been linked to hormone disruption, heart disease, insulin resistance, cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

Check out the Toxicity section on Wikipedia’s page on Plastics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic

It’s time to purge your plastics and detox your home by replacing plastic containers with glass. You may also want to (AKA “should”) check out what’s in the products you use in your home and look for natural alternatives. The ingredients in many cleaning products, bug sprays, soaps, facial creams and more be killing more than bugs and bacteria.

The good news is there are lots of healthy alternatives you can replace them with. to detox your home and make it a safer, healthier place for you and your family.
