Have you noticed that your period isn’t quite the same anymore?

Maybe it’s heavier, lighter, longer, shorter, more painful—or showing up when you least expect it.

During your 40s, your menstrual cycle can change as you move through perimenopause. But that doesn’t mean you should simply shrug your shoulders and say, “I guess this is just aging.”

Your cycle can provide useful information about what’s happening in your body. For example if your period is becoming heavier that may mean your estrogen is increasing, your progesterone is declining or may be time for a detox.

At our clinic, we believe hormone health is about more than looking at one hormone in isolation. Your hormones work together in a delicate symphony, and understanding your individual hormone levels can help provide a clearer picture of what may be happening.  Our 40s is the perfect time to start balancing our hormones so that we are not going into menopause in a deficient or inflamed state.

Rather than blindly taking hormones, we believe it’s important to consider appropriate testing, your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and your individual needs before deciding what support may be appropriate.

And hormones aren’t the only piece of the puzzle. Nutrition, blood sugar balance, digestion, stress, sleep and overall lifestyle can all be part of supporting your health during this stage of life.

If your periods have changed, don’t ignore the information your body may be giving you.
